Susie decided to get a little adventurous on her own in this Dark World she found. Unfortunately, a threat she'd been warned about had followed her here. This is the first time I'm playing DeltaChars on the channel! The Fun Gang are a cool lot. On my own time, I mainlined Ralsei for quite a while, but after doing this run, I started to appreciate what Susie brought to the table a lot more. In fact, I'm pretty sure Susie was the ideal choice if I was going to run this level at all, even outside the DeltaChars trio. Few other characters do what she does with the ease that she does it, and being the most combat-oriented member of the DeltaChars, she's definitely having the easiest time smashing through the enemies on this level under pressure from X; Rage Mode is a threat I have to take seriously, and no one else in the trio is gonna cut it in that situation. In case it wasn't obvious by the choice of chase music, I felt compelled to play at least one of the DeltaChars for X-Tober just because "Imminent Death" from deltarune was an option in X's menu, because apparently it was used in Sonic PC Port, one of the games X appears in. If that wasn't there, this particular video wouldn't exist at all; I probably would have picked somebody else entirely, and maybe even a different stage. For the record, I have absolutely no idea what the context is for Heroes Hall and why it functions the way that it does. It is, however, one of the longer levels I've played so far. Oh yeah, one more thing: This and every other video I made for the month was made using 2011X v1.5. This matters because apparently X as of 1.6.0.1 has interactions with the DeltaChars now! I had recorded these videos well in advance, so unfortunately you're not gonna see the new interactions this time; as of this moment, even I don't know what they look like. After parting ways with the Chaotix, Heavy, a rogue Badnik and implicitly best friend of Bomb, decided to pursue a relatively normal life. While the heroes and villains were busy doing their things, Heavy's goals are much more mundane; today, just deliver pizzas on time. Unfortunately, X wants to harass him anyway, but it looks like Heavy is capable of more or less ignoring it. Spiral Hill Pizza is one of Roger's levels. I don't know what other pack this level actually comes from, if the pack even exists, but I do believe it is probably bundled in with something of his. It's definitely not a Sol Sestancia pack, though the second one has two pizza delivery levels of its own. As far as I know, this is only in an OLDC pack right now; at the very least, it's where I played it. Also, this is the first time I'm playing a ChaotixChars character on the channel! Heavy is easily one of my favorites in that character pack, and it's not hard to see why I picked him for this level, with his Wario Land 4-esque gameplay style. It was pretty difficult, admittedly, and probably would have been much easier had I played a more conventional character or even one of my mainline modded characters, but I did it! My favorite zone from Sonic After the Sequel is adapted to SRB2, and Metal Sonic gets to run it! But of course, X is interfering, so Metal has to put this impostor in its place. Even here, I think it's a really good level. There are some issues I'm seeing, however, mostly to do with navigation in some regards. During some of my attempts, particularly in Act 1, I found myself going in a wide circle; it's definitely not always obvious which directions are "correct". Naturally, this is made even worse when you're under pressure from an enemy such as 2011X, but it should go without saying that such pressure is normally not present here. I might actually do some straight runs of this zone in the future after X-Tober is over. Act 1 and 2 are in two different OLDC packs, by the way. Hey, it's Eggpack Eggman's first appearance on this channel! Too bad he's got a psycho alien Sonic impostor trying to kill him! Honestly, this run had quite a bit of luck involved. I died so many times just trying to pass certain obstacles without getting grabbed in a position where I could not recover. But once I got some good runs, things started to click into place, and it was a matter of surviving the grabs themselves. Knuckles is taken to the Scrap Brain Zone. Apparently, he's familiar with the being hunting him. So, I've heard that apparently Knuckles in "Outcome Memories" comes specifically from some version of the events of Sonic 3. I don't know if that's true, but for the purposes of what narrative I've put in for the X-Tober series of videos, he's the only character who already knows who X is after everyone escaped by some means or another. I think it's pretty obvious why I picked this level (and Final Zone) in particular for Knuckles, but as for what I think of it personally without 2011X's involvement, I think it's alright. It needs a little refinement in some regards, but it shows promise. The boss fight in Final Zone was a neat take, though I think it could be more fair to the player than it is. I find it somewhat surprising that X does not spawn in Final Zone, but considering there is a boss at the end, it makes sense; perhaps it's flagged as a boss level or something, which X not allowed to spawn in on its own; you have to use the console to force it to spawn here, and I just didn't want to. Double feature today! Like I said in the Any% description, I kind of phoned it in with these. Unlike with most of the characters I play, I don't really care to speedrun with Knuckles that much; mistakes I would consider unacceptable with anyone else, I wasn't interested in correcting with Knuckles at this time. Good speedruns with Knuckles require a level of precision to skip some of his own designated paths that I just don't possess. Even the Chaos Emeralds don't really help much in this regard. I'm learning to despise the Knuckles route in ERZ1 in particular. That being said, I set targets for myself with these, and I passed them. I doubt they rank particularly well among other Knuckles runs in their category, but that's fine by me. I just needed something for this Friday. Double feature this week! An Any% run and an All Emeralds run! There's no sugarcoating it, though; I kind of phoned this run in. I don't particularly care to speedrun vanilla Knuckles, I just wanted to run another vanilla character so that I could have as many runs in the main categories as I do in the extended categories. Not even done, either; at some point, I'll probably do runs with Amy and/or Fang. Not absolutely sure I'll do Sonic, but maybe. Among other things, it really bothers me that I straight up forgot how Brak Eggman worked after running the Sol Sestancia packs so much. That's why I spent several seconds in the earliest part of that fight not attacking it and instead wondering why the slime (or whatever the green stuff is) wasn't coming down. This is the last run before my October project, though, which incidentally Knuckles is involved in at least a little bit. Some of you might enjoy it, some of you might hate it, but it's a thing I'm doing for the Halloween season nonetheless. See you next week! Now you're seeing why my plans changed for these videos. I was originally going to do one video where I did every arena on Insane Mode, but then I got beat up pretty bad here, and didn't even make it through the Peasants' Arena. Volcano Arena alone is already a significant difficulty spike after the earlier two arenas; when you hit Peasants' Arena, you better be prepared to be a god(dess) with every tool you have. I didn't have what it takes. At least, I don't yet; we'll see what the future holds. But that should be it for the filler. Much better than my original best as Metal Sonic, but still the slowest of all the characters I ran this pack with so far. I think significantly better than this is possible, but like with the first Sol Sestancia, Metal Sonic is not gonna surpass the best possible Metal Sonic 3.0 run no matter how hard he tries. Compared to the other characters I've run so far, I'm not sure, honestly. Also, Scratch & Grounder didn't kill me this time!
