Originally, this was going to be a part of a bigger video, but then I changed my plans. So for the next couple Wednesdays after this, you're getting Insane Mode Arenas. For those of you who subbed for the Sonic Robo Blast 2 stuff, don't worry; that's not going anywhere. I've always considered myself a variety channel, but SRB2 is definitely my focus these days; I even have a project for October involving it. I just need time to prepare it. Once again, it's my best time yet on this pack, even though it's clumsier than I would have liked. Little under a minute better than my best Millie run, but honestly, I think Metal Sonic 3.0 has sub-33 potential also. I don't yet have the skills to make that happen, but if a better runner wants to take a stab at it, be my guest. Some of the same places that tested me as vanilla Metal Sonic tested me as 3.0 as well, which somewhat surprised me given how much 3.0 tends to trivialize, at least outside speedrun situations. Just like with Sol Sestancia 1, however, some areas tested me that didn't before. The idle animation didn't cause much, if any, trouble this time around; apparently Roger decided to take a different approach to keeping the player in roughly one place while a cutscene is playing than he did with the first pack. At least I didn't get killed by Scratch & Grounder this time; that part of Royal Palace is apparently difficult no matter which Metal Sonic I'm playing. So this is that compilation I said was going to happen last week. Decided to knuckle down and get it over with, finally. Job's done! As you can see, there's a pattern with these runs; I was doing most of the same levels I was running as Metal Sonic at the time, which at least some of you probably watched. While I got better times than vanilla Metal Sonic, I was nonetheless very clumsy back then. Not much has changed, admittedly, but I like to think I got better over time, at least as I played these levels with other characters. Metal Sonic 3.0 is easily one of my favorite modded characters; he's not taking Millie's spot by any measure, but I definitely will be running him more in the future. I seem to keep blowing my previous times out of the water with this level pack every time I take a new character to it. Surely that can't last forever, though. Metal Sonic 3.0 is a truly powerful character, and probably one of the fastest modded characters meant to meaningfully compete with the vanilla roster. However, he is incredibly difficult to control; truly, he makes wrangling vanilla Metal Sonic feel easy. You really have no idea how long it took for me to get this run. If I ever revisit Sol Sestancia with Metal 3.0, I think I'm going to try to optimize further. I think sub-17 minutes is theoretically possible. I'm not as confident with the other characters I've tried, though there's certainly room for improvement with them as well, but Metal 3.0 definitely has sub-17 potential. Personally, I just hope Sol Sestancia 2 isn't nearly as much of a headache with Metal 3.0 as Sol Sestancia was. Although, this run did make me consider revisiting vanilla Metal Sonic and trying for a better run than I got with him last time, so there's that. I think I'm done pushing the envelope with new characters; it's time to focus on the characters I know I want to play in the long term, regardless of which level pack I'm playing. I'll probably run more vanilla characters on the vanilla campaign, but that's about it for me. Side note: Metal 3.0's idle animation of all things is actually a liability in this level pack, because certain transitions teleport you very high into the air while cutscenes are playing, and his idle animation makes him fly; the teleport doesn't do anything to interrupt this animation, so if you do nothing while cutscenes are playing as you might with any other character, you will lose time in a speedrun because Metal 3.0 won't be falling into a position where you can make progress while you wait for the cutscene to end. Decided to one-up myself by scoring a better time than one of my previous records on this level as Metal Sonic 3.0, which was quite difficult, actually. What's that? You didn't know I ran this character before, let alone on this level? Well, yeah, I was going to put together a compilation of my first few runs with him, including my original record for this level that I just beat, but never got around to it. Each individual run with Metal 3.0 prior to this one is currently an unlisted video only visible to those who are looking at Speedrun.com. My original run of this level is probably going to become an obsolete one within days of this one going up, however, and thus taken off the board and replaced. Fastest time yet, but only marginally better than Jana's time. I made a fair number of mistakes; I can do better. But this is good enough for me. For now, anyway. I love these two level packs so much; I hope Sol Sestancia 3 delivers on quality like the first two did! I also hope 3 is more co-op friendly; I like to play with my brother on weekends, and while the first pack was fully playable, the second one had a lot of softlocks for player 2, let alone anyone beyond that. Just wanted to see how long I would last on one life, and decided to make a video out of it. Visits to the store to restock potions and sandwiches are fair game as far as I'm concerned, and you'll see why eventually. This was a fun playthrough, even though it wasn't a finish. Pink Knight will always be my favorite character to play. I kinda hate that I choked where I did; that's not even a hard room for me anymore. Messed up my attempt at beefy manipulation and paid for it. I would have at least liked to have made it past the next segment or two before going down, or hell, maybe even the Necromancer battle itself, which I still have yet to really grasp without resorting to "tek" as the Castle Crashers community calls it. This run was awful. It was literally my second attempt, and I still had a bad time. I didn't have time to get a better one, unfortunately, so this is what we get. I don't know when I'll try for a better one, but I know that I will, because this is not even to my standard; my ego won't allow this to stand as my personal best for too long. Generally being bad at Metal Knuckles aside, I just really don't know the Knuckles routes, and more importantly, which ones Metal can skip, because Knuckles routes suck, which is a factor in why speedrunners don't like Knuckles. Metal Knuckles, for all that he takes from Metal Sonic, still carries Knuckles's biggest flaw – he has the lowest jump height among the vanilla characters – so if I want a better time with this character, I'm going to have to learn some routes I don't normally take. Also, I didn't even know the door at the beginning of ERZ2 could kill you. That's news to me.
